Disadvantaged Children

Disadvantaged Pupils


Some children are disadvantaged through no fault of their own and may need some additional support.  This includes children from low-income families eligible for free school meals or children or have been recorded as eligible in the past 6 years, including eligible children of families who have no recourse to public funds. Children looked after by local authorities or have been looked after in the past, referred to as looked-after children also qualify. This includes children in foster care. 


Children with Special Educational Needs are supported through special needs funding although some children may have special educational needs and qualify for support as a disadvantaged child.


Schools can use a special grant called Pupil Premium to help disadvantaged pupils when they are at school.
